True Bloody Anna

trueblood3A Barmaid Wins a Golden Globe!
The 66th annual Golden Globes were held this week and Anna Paquin won the best actress award for playing a telepathic barmaid in the HBO show, True Blood. You may remember Anna as the little girl in the award winning film, The Piano many years ago.

Anna plays Sookie Stackhouse and works at Merlotte’s Bar & Grill in a small Louisiana town where vampires live. The owner of the bar is a shape shifter and often watches over Sookie in the form of a dog. Just your ordinary small town story, I guess.

Todd Lowe and Rutina Wesley play the bartenders in True Blood.

Does anyone know what type of beer represents the tap handle in the shape of a man with his forearm up?

tru-blood1This Blood’s For You!
True Blood’s marketing campaign spotlighted a fictional drink in a bottle called TruBlood. Available in four blood types and followed by several taglines; A Synthetic Blood Nourishment Beverage, This Blood’s For You, What’s Your Type?, and All Flavor No Bite.

Some beverage vending machines across the US were also fitted with cards indication that they were “sold out” of TruBlood. Their website sells mugs, pints, and more.

Vampire fascination has surfaced up and down through time. Today we have the TV show True Blood and the recent film,  Twilight. I searched around for some vampire cocktails and found lots of creative ones with garlic infused gin, kisses on the glass, and even a set of vampire teeth as a garnish. If you’d like to learn how to make a pitcher of Bloody Mary mix from scratch then you should check out Jeffrey Morgenthaler’s recipe here.

You will need these ingredients
1 46-oz can tomato juice
1 garlic clove, minced
½ small avocado
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
1½ oz lemon juice
1½ tbsp steak sauce
2 tsp cracked pepper
1½ tsp celery salt
1½ tsp hot sauce
1 tsp horseradish

  1. That tap handle looks like the one for Bare Knuckle Stout, an Anheuser-Busch product.

  2. Yeah! I looked that up and you’re right!
